Tiny Solo Show — Questions, Answers, Sneak Previews

Updated: Aug 17

Why are you having a solo show in a phone box?

The show is called 'Tiny' because the concept for the show is very small art. So it's an extension of that idea. A very small gallery for very small art. I take my work extremely seriously, but nobody who knows me or follows me would suggest I take myself particularly seriously, and this gallery choice reflects that. I have always tried to do things differently, and novelty tends to work well online.

I also read a study that showed that, except for a few outliers, you can accurately predict an artist's career trajectory by the first five galleries in which they exhibited. This riled me and pushed me in the opposite direction. I'm not exactly sitting by the phone waiting for The White Cube to ring, it's best to just get on with it. It is self-evident that you can have terrible art in the swankiest galleries and extremely high-level art in much less prestigious places.

Artists at all levels try to project an image of success in terms of scale; big art, big clients, big galleries, big success. I am quite established at this point, but I like the idea of flipping that around; very small work in the smallest gallery in the UK. So you could also file this under British self-deprecating humour. Of course this only works if the work is amazing, otherwise you just have a bunch of crap art in a phone box in the middle of nowhere. But I hope it's pretty obvious to most that this is not the case. I hope the work speaks for itself.

When is the show?

The show launches online on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 3pm BST (8 am PT/ 11 am EST) with the work available to buy here. I will be at the Gallery On The Green venue from 1 to 3 pm GMT on the day. So, if people are in the area and want to say hello, please come along. I will give you a tour of the gallery, which won't take very long, and show you the new work in person.

'Find The Things', shown here, is die-stamped in Metallic Gold Ink on Scarlet Colorplan Paper, 540 gsm. It is a signed edition of 130 only and measures 165 x 110 mm (approximately 6.5 x 4.4 inches). £24 (about $30 US) plus postage. Hand printed in London, England.

Sign up for my occasional newsletter here to be among the first to know when the prints are available online and to be entered into a draw to win a print of your choice from the show.
